Vector Foiltec awarded Malaysia's biggest ETFE project
VERVÈA @ Aspen Vision City will be the largest commercial precinct in northern Malaysia, which also includes the first IKEA store in that region.  Occupying 35 acres, it will comprise of 434 units of 3 and 4-storey shop offices.  VERVÈA is part of Aspen Vison City, a 245-acre plot of integrated development with first-class infrastructure and amenities at a GDV of MYR 10 billion or approximately USD 2.55 billion.
VERVÈA comes with a whole host of value-added features such as a 300m covered High Street for events and activities to further boost businesses which includes retail shops, F&B outlets and entertainment venues.  The architect envisioned a covered street, uncommon for shop-lot developments in Malaysia, for pedestrians’ shopping experience; outdoor-feel without the heat and glare associated with the tropics!
Vector Foiltec has been contracted to design and build that all-important High Street Canopy.
The 12,500 sq m of Texlon® 2-layer ETFE cushion will be installed beneath a stunningly undulating, light-weight, column-free and hidden steel structure which will span 40m across and runs 300m along the entire length of High Street.  The design of that steel structure, also a part Vector Foiltec’s scope, has almost no bending moments onto the small RC columns.  With its’ huge 40m-span, it is a significant feat that the entire steelwork only weighs approximately 850 tonnes; possible only with our astute value-engineering which translate into huge savings for the developer.  Vector Foiltec will also fabricate, supply and install the steelworks.
Also, Vector Foiltec adopted a comprehensive approach to ventilation strategy beneath the canopy; worked closely with ARUP for CFD on natural aeration and cooling, analyzed our calculations on thermal and optical properties for our various patented frit, studied the impact of different canopy geometries and investigated various mechanical systems available in the market for removal of vehicle exhaust fumes.
The end-result was that the High Street Canopy’s geometry not only keeps with the architect’s design language for the development but also a total solution, including ventilation.
