Completion of the first high-rise building adopting MiC method in Hong Kong
Construction of the Fire Services Department's Married Quarters in Tseung Kwan O was recently completed.
The project, located at Pak Shing Kok, is the first high-rise building project adopting the modular integrated construction (MiC) method in Hong Kong, using 3,726 concrete modules. It is also one of the Government's pilot projects to promote the use of MiC. The project comprises five blocks of quarters of 16 to 17 storeys, providing 648 three-bedroom units. The HKSAR Government said the use of the MiC can cut construction time 30% to 50% and save about 10% construction costs, adding it can help improve productivity, construction workmanship, sustainability and safety. The Government will encourage the construction industry to adopt MiC in building construction. There are currently more than 60 projects adopting MiC.
