Macao Peninsula-Hengqin new transport link under discussion
Officials from Macao and the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin have initiated talks on the potential construction of a new transportation link aimed at enhancing connectivity between the two regions.
    Recent reports indicate that both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions, addressing key aspects of the proposed corridor such as site selection, design coordination, and traffic management strategies.
    Moving forward, a coordinated working mechanism will be established to refine the proposal further, solicit public feedback, and accelerate project development.
    Currently, the only direct land connection between Macau and Hengqin is via the Lotus Bridge and Hengqin Port in Cotai. However, the proposed new link would be situated on the northeastern side of Hengqin’s financial district—commonly referred to as Financial Island. The corresponding location on the Macau side has yet to be disclosed.
