HKSTPC celebrates 10 years of excellence
Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) ushered in the start of celebrations to mark its 10th anniversary on May 24, 2011. Coinciding with the celebratory event, HKSTPC took the opportunity to officially open Green 18, an 8-storey state-of-the-art environmentally friendly and operationally efficient building located in Phase 2 of Hong Kong Science Park. The building will serve as a blueprint for the development of Phase 3, a home for green technologies companies, which is currently under planning. Over the past decade, HKSTPC has been a driving force in advancing the five chosen technology clusters of Electronics, Information Technology and Telecommunications, Precision Engineering, Biotechnology, and Green Technology. Advanced facilities backed by high-calibre support services have helped bolster the competitiveness of Hong Kong industries. The appeal of Hong Kong Science Park as an R&D base has become increasingly apparent as a total of 344 companies of all sizes and expertise have contributed to a growing occupancy rate that is now near 90%, Phase 1 and 2 combined. Green 18, the latest addition to the Science Park landscape, will help reinforce HKSTPC's competence in green technology development while at the same time showcase green technologies at work. Green 18 employs green features, such as an operable, vertical louver facade system, vertical green wall and green ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof for maximising daylight, natural ventilation and 'total energy management'. Recyclable and low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) building materials have also been used in the building's construction. Not resting on its laurels, HKSTPC will seek to remain in the vanguard of Hong Kong's innovation and technology drive. Towards this end, the Corporation will continue to provide advanced infrastructure and services to companies involved in its five technology clusters. HKSTPC will also nurture relations with the public, especially the young generation, enhancing ties through existing and new mediums of communications.
