Superstructure works set to begin on Macao Central Library
Public Works Bureau of Macao accepts 30 bids for the cultural facility’s next phase, with construction slated to span up to 590 workdays.

The Macao Central Library is a flagship public infrastructure initiative aimed at promoting lifelong learning, cultural exchange, and architectural revitalization in the city’s historic core. The new facility will replace the former Hotel Estoril site and is positioned to become a cultural landmark.

A contemporary structure within a heritage context, integrating the square into the library’s public realm
Façade Inspiration
Draws from the modernist design of Hotel Estoril, with a lattice pattern that mimics bookshelves and filters light

Visitors ascend through interconnected spaces to reach reading rooms at the top level
Heritage Integration
Preserves the mosaic mural of Fortuna, the Roman goddess of chance, in the new lobby
