Construction began on the largest airport passenger terminal in the world
A second airport is under construction in Beijing. The new airport is located at the north bank of Yongding River in Daxing District, Beijing, which is approximately 68 km from the existing Beijing International Airport. The distance between the new airport and Tiananmen Square is approximately 46 km.
     The new airport occupies a site are of 27.9 hectares and will have the largest airport terminal in the world with a total GFA of 1.03 million sq m. The terminal will comprise 3 main components: a passenger terminal, a transportation interchange and, a mixed use service building and carpark building.
     Phase I of the new airport will have 4 runways and could handle 72 million passengers and 620,000 flights annually. According to plan, Phase 1 of the new airport will be completed and in operation in 2025.
