A new civil airport in was recently opned for service in Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. The new Shaoguan Danxia Airport is located in the Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County in Shaoguan. It is approximately 60 kilometers from Danxia Mountain, a renowned scenic spot with a 5A rating, and about 50 kilometers from Nanhua Temple, a famous Buddhist temple in China.
    With an annual passenger throughput of 2 million, the airport is capable of handling 9,500 flights and 4,000 tonnes of cargo annually. The airport plans to launch air routes linking several major cities in the mainland, including Beijing, Shangha Nanning, Hangzhou and Kunming.
    Currently, there are a total of nine civil airports in the Guandong province, including the new Shaoguan Danxia Airport.
