Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport to open by 2035

China is building the world's largest artificial island airport, Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport, set to open by 2035. This airport will span 20 square kilometers, surpassing Hong Kong International Airport (12.48 square kilometers) and Kansai International Airport (10 square kilometers). The new airport will feature four runways and a 900,000 square-meter passenger terminal, capable of handling 80 million passengers annually and one million tonnes of cargo. It aims to alleviate the capacity issues of the existing Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport and boost Dalian’s economy through enhanced trade with Japan and South Korea.

A massive US$4.3 billion project
In a landmark venture, China has embarked on constructing the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport, destined to be the world's largest artificial island airport. Nestled in Dalian, a pivotal northeastern city, this colossal project will span an impressive 20 square kilometers. With four runways and a sprawling 900,000 square-meter passenger terminal, the airport is designed to cater to 80 million passengers annually and manage a million tonnes of cargo, setting a new benchmark in aviation infrastructure.
Scheduled to open its doors by 2035, the airport will significantly ease the passenger traffic burden on the nearly century-old Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport, which has reached its capacity limits despite numerous expansions. The development promises to fortify Dalian's role as a crucial transport hub and economic powerhouse, facilitating greater trade links with nearby giants Japan and South Korea.
The ambitious US$4.3 billion project is currently in the advanced stages of land reclamation and foundational work, marking a significant stride towards its completion. As China continues to push the envelope in engineering and infrastructure, the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport stands as a testament to the nation's vision and prowess in shaping the future of global air travel.
