SJM Holdings has announced that its gaming subsidiary, SJM Resorts, SA, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Zhuhai Hengqin Shun Tak Property Development Company. This agreement outlines the potential acquisition of specific office properties located at Xin De Kou An Shang Wu Zhong Xin in the Hengqin New District.
The gaming company states that this strategic move is aimed at bolstering the moderate diversification of Macau’s economy. The acquisition, involving a subsidiary of Shun Tak Holdings, is expected to cost up to RMB546 million (MOP601 million/USD75.2 million).
The Xin De Kou An Shang Wu Zhong Xin complex, which is set to be redeveloped into a three-star hotel, is conveniently located approximately five minutes from the Hengqin checkpoint. This checkpoint will be fully connected to Macau’s Light Rapid Transit (LRT) network and a railway linking Guangzhou and the neighboring Zhuhai.
The proposed acquisition includes the 21st to 29th floors of the complex, which comprises nine levels of office space and a retail unit located at No. 28 Xinde Jie, totaling approximately 14,845 square meters.
In July 2024, the Hengqin government announced that it would permit the conversion of commercial buildings into hotels.
