Shenzhen and Zhuhai are set to be linked by a new high-speed railway, reducing travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes. This infrastructure project promises to strengthen connectivity and boost development in the region.
As part of a broader initiative, the railway will complement a planned motorway and an intercity rail service. The Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission has prioritized research for this project in its 2025 budget, showcasing its importance in regional development.
The high-speed rail, a key feature of the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Corridor project, will span 80.7 kilometers and operate trains at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour. In parallel, an intercity railway will cover approximately 40 kilometers, with trains designed to travel at 200 kilometers per hour.

A new eight-lane motorway will connect Shenzhen’s Qianhai—a dynamic hub for innovation and services—with Zhuhai’s Jinding, located near the Zhuhai International Circuit. This enhanced transport network is expected to significantly improve accessibility and foster economic growth in the area.
Further enhancing regional connectivity, recent infrastructure upgrades allow frequent travelers between Zhuhai’s Gongbei checkpoint and Shenzhen Bay Port to use e-channels with facial recognition technology.
Notably, in June last year, Shenzhen inaugurated its cross-sea link with Zhongshan. This 24-kilometer passage incorporates two bridges, two artificial islands, and an underwater tunnel. Designed for speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, the eight-lane route has already reduced travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from two hours to just 30 minutes.
With these ambitious projects, the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Corridor is poised to become a model of modern infrastructure, promoting efficient transportation and regional integration. (MacaoBuild)
