Proposed construction of 50,000 residential units in Tseung Kwan O

The government has recently announced a significant plan involving the reclamation works in Tseung Kwan O Areas 137 and 132. This initiative aims to provide more residential units and necessary public facilities to support the long-term development of Tseung Kwan O.

Reclamation Works
Area 137: Located south of Tseung Kwan O Sunrise City, the reclamation project includes the construction of a 1.7 km seawall and the development of approximately 20 hectares of land. The project is expected to commence by the end of the year.

Area 132: The plan involves building a 1.3 km seawall and reclamation works to create about 20 hectares of land for public facilities construction.

Residential and Commercial Development
Post-reclamation, Area 137 is expected to become a residential and commercial community, adding 50,000 residential units and providing housing for 135,000 people. The first batch of residents could move in as early as 2030.

Infrastructure Development
Tseung Kwan O Line South Extension: Extending from LOHAS Park Station to Area 137 to meet future transportation demands.

Waterfront Promenade and Complex: Construction of a 1.4 km waterfront promenade, public market, swimming pool, and sports hall.

Public Facilities
Area 132: The reclaimed land will mainly be used for constructing power facilities, construction waste treatment facilities, and a concrete plant. Among these, the power facilities will cover 5.6 hectares, serving as a crucial infrastructure for importing zero-carbon energy into Hong Kong.

This plan not only aims to enhance the living environment in Tseung Kwan O but also to improve public facilities and infrastructure, providing more conveniences for local residents. The government's initiative demonstrates a commitment to long-term planning and sustainable development.
